Dr. Goulart da Silva is assistant professor of Linguistics at Montclair State University. She held a previous position as a Lecturer of TESOL at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil. In 2022, Dr Goulart da Silva completed my PhD in Applied Linguistics at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ. Her MA in ELT was completed at Warwick University in Coventry, UK and BA in English and Portuguese Teaching was obtained from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul.
Dr. Goulart da Silva's research interest lies in corpus-based approaches to register variation, academic discourse, and second language writing. She has published her work in the Journal of English for Academic Purposes, Register Studies, Journal of Reading as a Foreign Language, among others.
Most of Dr. Goulart da Silva's research is informed by her experience as a Portuguese and English language teacher. She taught EFL/ESL classes in Brazil and in the US and Portuguese as a Foreign/Second Language in Brazil, the US and the UK.
Dr. Goulart da Silve coordinates the Laboratory for Applied Corpus Linguistics Research at Montclair State University.
Research interests
Corpus-based approaches to register variation, academic discourse, and second language writing.
