Olena Nesteruk received her Ph.D. in Human Ecology from Louisiana State University in 2007. Her main research focus is on the experiences of immigrant families over the life course and across generations in the United States. Specifically, she studies acculturation, changes in parenting practices and intergenerational relationships; second generation youth’s ethnic identity development, mate selection, and heritage language maintenance and loss; Eastern European immigrants. Most recently, she has been researching transnational bereavement, and immigrants in middle and later life. Olena is a member of the National Council on Family Relations and the Society for Cross-Cultural Research.

Research interests

Focus is on the experiences of immigrant families over the life course and across generations in the United States. Specifically, Dr. Neteruk studies acculturation, changes in parenting practices and intergenerational relationships; second generation youth’s ethnic identity development, mate selection, and heritage language maintenance and loss; Eastern European immigrants.
