Dr. Tamara Leech's work focuses on the well being of young people who live in marginalized and under-served urban environments. She is especially interested in racial and gender inequities that are written into policies (historical or contemporary) and practices (both formal and informal). More specifically, her scholarship investigates formal and informal aspects of de-industrialized cities, and how these factors are tied to violence and risky sexual behavior among adolescents.

Dr. Leech received a BA in Public Policy and International Affairs and a certificate in African American studies from Princeton University. She earned her MA and PhD in Sociology from the University of Michigan. Her specialization was in stratification/demography, with a cognate in public health.
