Dr. Tara Conley is assistant professor of Transmedia Storytelling in the School of Communication and Media at Montclair State University. an interdisciplinary scholar and mediamaker with an established research agenda in the field of communication and media. In addition Dr. Conley is the 2021-2022 Race and Technology Practitioner Fellow at Stanford University.
In 2013, she founded Hashtag Feminism (www.hashtagfeminism.org) to locate and archive feminist discourse by way of tracking Twitter hashtags on the web. In 2015, Dr. Conley produced the documentary Brackish about life in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina. She is currently wrapping up production on my latest full length documentary film, DRY BONES about Ike Maxwell, a legendary Elyria High School Black football player of the 1970s whose brother was shot and killed by a white Elyria police officer in a small Ohio town confronting a long history of racial tension.
Dr. Conley is the founder of MEDIA MAKE CHANGE, a media production and consulting company established in 2009. Her research and multimedia production engage scholarship and methods across multiple fields including communication and media studies, digital humanities, art and design, science and technology studies, and archival studies.
