Abstract
Fish behaviors can range from relatively simple to incredibly complex and are prone to modification by environmental toxins and toxicants, with potentially lethal consequences. Studies use a variety of measures to quantify specific aspects of behavior, many of which will be discussed here. This section is focused on survival behaviors (locomotion, foraging, escape, sensation, and sleep), reproductive behaviors (mate selection, nest building, egg laying, territory and egg guarding, and spawning aggregation), cognitive behaviors (memory, numerosity, and anxiety-like behavior), toxicity and behavioral testing, and some methodological considerations for performing ecotoxicology research.
