Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

This chapter for the first time proposes a comprehensive regionalization plan for China’s New Urbanization. After a detailed literature review of regionalization attempts in other aspects of regional development, the chapter details the general principles for urbanization regionalization, namely comprehensiveness, dominance, consistency, regional continuity, and abiding current administrative boundaries. In addition, advanced data analytical approaches for comprehensive regionalization for New Urbanization are employed. Based on these principles and data analyses, this chapter proposes a tentative comprehensive urbanization regionalization plan that includes five urbanization regions, i.e., urban agglomeration region, major food production region, agricultural-forestry-pastoral region, poverty contiguous region, and ethnic minority autonomous region. Promoting strategies from the national and regional levels are also discussed.
