Abstract
This chapter provides an overview of the book. Readers are introduced to the Counseling profession and the utility of the book in helping them make decisions about applying to graduate programs. The authors provide an overview of Counseling, definitions, and scope of practice in the places where Counselors work. Counselor professional identity is discussed as a foundation for pursuing graduate study and a career in the field. Readers are introduced to the considerations about entering graduate study and the profession that they will explore in the book. The organization of the sections and description of individual chapters are presented, followed by recommendations for navigating content in the book.
