Abstract
This entry discusses the term “luxury city,” defined as a distinct strategy of development that aims to bring into being an urban environment geared to satisfy the interests and desires of wealthy elites in a variety of ways. The entry notes the ways in which the concept builds on and extends to other concepts in urban theory, discusses the role that the luxury city plays in contemporary class processes, and links the luxury city to the ongoing deepening of global economic inequality.
