Abstract

In most business environments, data is at the core of the majority of computer applications. Since data is central and databases are used to store and manage this data, the database management systems play an important role in information systems. The management of information is crucial to the success of any organization and the need to efficiently store, manage and access data is increasing everyday in the modern world because its impact on productivity and other areas have been well understood over the years. As the technology advances, countless smart, relatively small-scale platforms such as PDAs (personal digital assistants), smart phones and pocketPCs are finding their way to the market and getting more popular everyday with their small profile, portability and increasing computing power combined with various connectivity capabilities including wireless networks. This paper describes a prototype architecture, design and implementation of a graphical user interface for Microsoft SQL Server database management system which is optimized for portable smart devices.
