    Abstract

The turbulent flows inside straight radial ducts and rotating radial ducts were investigated numerically using the time-averaged Navier Stokes equations in 3 dimensions. Turbulent phenomena were represented by standard K-ε model or modified K-ε model. The governing differential equations of Cartesian velocity components in arbitrary curvilinear system of coordinates were solved with non-staggered grids by SIMPLE method. The numerical results were compared with the experimental ones available in the references. The authors also numerically analyzed the effect of rotation on the velocity distributions of primary flow and secondary flow, and the effect of rotation on the turbulent models.
