Abstract
The aim of this study is to identify the achievements and limitations of the official multidimensional measurement of poverty in Mexico, identify some opportunities for improvement, and propose a series of modifications that would enhance its technical robustness and increase its relevance for the design, analysis, and evaluation of public policies. After a critical analysis of its conceptual and methodological foundations, it is argued that the proposed modifications, particularly the inclusion of new dimensions, would improve the measurement of poverty and make it more relevant for diagnosing the country’s social situation.
