Abstract

This special issue, Rethinking Cultural Inclusiveness in the Hospitality Discipline: A Strategic Imperative, addresses the urgent need for inclusive practices in hospitality and tourism education amid evolving societal and political challenges. As institutions reexamine their commitment to inclusive values, this issue underscores the importance of preparing students to thrive in an increasingly diverse and global industry. The included articles explore critical topics such as intercultural competence development, implicit bias in student perceptions of faculty, diversity messaging in academic job postings, and support mechanisms for international graduates. Case studies further demonstrate the effectiveness of experiential and transformational learning in fostering inclusive environments. Collectively, the issue highlights the professional and ethical responsibility of educators and institutions to cultivate culturally responsive programs. By embedding inclusion into curricula, recruitment, and organizational culture, hospitality programs can better serve students, support the industry’s workforce needs, and uphold the discipline’s core values in a rapidly changing world.
